Worship

I've been involved in helping to facilitate worship and worship training since 1982. The most recent expression of that is my role as one of the conference team for Mission:Worship, the annual conference that takes place each year in Eastbourne and attracts up to 1700 people.

In recent years I've been exploring the role of prayer in corporate worship and helped Pete Greig write Red Moon Rising, the story of 24-7prayer. I'm also working hard to join the dots with respect to worship and justice and hope to write about that in the coming months

Indescribable - the story of the song

The songwriter behind Indescribable describes it's inspiration .......

But those challenges were overcome when God provided more money and more songs. In 2002, Story began recording her first independent album with producer Stephen Gause and trusted that the last song she needed to round out the album would be provided. Soon after, she was driving down a mountain road, eyes fixed on the majesty of her Creator, when she started worshiping and singing, “Indescribable…uncontainable…You placed the… Continue

More Than Just a Song Leader?

Michele Bennett writes:

Every Sunday, worship leaders around the world—whether armed with a hymnal or a projector—guide fellow Christians in their worship of the living God. But directing worship is about more than just leading songs. It involves plans on Monday morning, words on Wednesday night, and intentions on Friday afternoon. For worship that pleases God is not just a matter of style or of place; both the art and the heart of worship matter.

In a new book by Crossway, Bob Kauflin explore… Continue

Is Your Preferred Music Style a 'God?'

Greg Brewton writes:

A number of years ago I had an interesting discussion with another staff member of a church where I served as minister of music. The church was contemplating starting a new service that would be contemporary in style. The staff member told me that he really liked the contemporary music style for worship. In fact, he said that he really could not worship unless he had that particular music style for his worship music. I was shocked by the comment at first . . . “can’t worshi… Continue

Who gets the credit?

Tim Hughes writes:

Recently I've been involved in an exciting project called Compassion Art. In January 2008, 12 writers gathered together for a week of song writing in Scotland. The song writers included Martin Smith, Matt Redman, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Darlene Zschech, Graham Kendrick, Paul Baloche, Andy Park, Israel Houghton, Stu G, Chris Tomlin and myself.

It was an amazing week writing together - a hub of creativity. It was a fascinating process to see how different writ… Continue

Worship and Prayer - Making the Connection

One of the important elements in the corporate worship service is prayer. Other than songs that express our heart cry to the Lord and time spent reading and preaching His Word, prayer is one of the main ways we seek the Lord in the worship time. If we were to prioritize the elements of our worship service, I think many would say that prayer should be one of the top priorities in the worship service. But when we look at how our time is spent in worship, we might come to the conclusion that prayer… Continue
